Pipefitters - Working Conditions

In a typical work setting, plumbers and pipefitters:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate by phone and in person on a daily basis. Occasionally use e-mail and write memos.
  • Are greatly responsible for the health and safety of others.
  • Work as part of a work group or team and are very responsible for the work done by others.
  • Occasionally deal with people who may be angry or unpleasant.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Regularly wear safety and protective attire.
  • Often work in cramped spaces that require getting into awkward positions.
  • Are often exposed to hazardous equipment, conditions, and contaminants that may result in minor injury.
