In Illinois, psychologists must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Licensing requirements include:
- being at least 21 years old;
- completion of a doctoral degree in clinical, school or counseling psychology, or its equivalent, from an approved college, university or school accredited by the American Psychological Association / Council for the National Register of Health Service providers;
- completion of two years of supervised, professional experience, one of which must be post doctoral;
- passage of an exam; and
- payment of a license application fee.
Licensure must be renewed every two years.
