Demand for this career will be very strong. As the population ages, more people will need help dealing with hearing loss. Age-related impairments such as strokes will mean that more people will need help with hearing loss and speech impairments. Increased awareness of childhood speech and language disorders will also lead to more demand. Medical advances allow more children to survive premature birth and adults to survive strokes. Many of these patients need speech-language therapy.
