In Illinois, veterinarians must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Licensing requirements include:
- completion of two years of pre-veterinary collegiate training;
- graduation from an approved four-year veterinary medicine and surgery program;
- passage of licensing exams; and,
- payment of a licensing fee.
Licensure must be renewed every two years and requires 40 hours of continuing education and a renewal fee.
