Naturopathic Physicians - Working Conditions

In a typical work setting, naturopathic physicians:

Have a high level of social interaction. They consult with patients throughout the day.
Communicate daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. They also write letters and memos, but less often.
Are somewhat responsible for the work done by other staff.
Have a high level of responsibility for the health and safety of patients.

Occasionally deal with conflict situations where patients may be discourteous or angry.
May work as part of a medical team.

Almost always work indoors.
Work close to patients. They must come into physical contact to properly examine patients and administer treatments.
Are regularly exposed to diseases and infections from patients.
Occasionally wear gloves or masks.

Must be exact and accurate when treating patients. Errors can impact a patient's health.
Repeat some of the same physical and mental tasks throughout the day.
Make decisions on a daily basis that substantially impact patients and their families.
Rarely consult a supervisor when making decisions or setting their tasks and goals for the day.

Work in a moderately competitive atmosphere where they must meet daily deadlines.

May work 40 hours a week or more. Most work 40 hours a week.
Usually work a set schedule. May work evenings or weekends to better serve patients.
