In a typical work setting, naturopathic physicians:
Interpersonal Relationships
- Have a high level of social interaction. They consult with patients throughout the day.
- Communicate daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. They also write letters and memos, but less often.
- Are somewhat responsible for the work done by other staff.
- Have a high level of responsibility for the health and safety of patients.

- Occasionally deal with conflict situations where patients may be discourteous or angry.
- May work as part of a medical team.
Physical Work Conditions
- Almost always work indoors.
- Work close to patients. They must come into physical contact to properly examine patients and administer treatments.
- Are regularly exposed to diseases and infections from patients.
- Occasionally wear gloves or masks.
Work Performance
- Must be exact and accurate when treating patients. Errors can impact a patient's health.
- Repeat some of the same physical and mental tasks throughout the day.
- Make decisions on a daily basis that substantially impact patients and their families.
- Rarely consult a supervisor when making decisions or setting their tasks and goals for the day.

Hours/Travel
- May work 40 hours a week or more. Most work 40 hours a week.
- Usually work a set schedule. May work evenings or weekends to better serve patients.
