Jazz Studies - Helpful Information

Things to know

Most jazz studies programs require students to give several performances. Students perform at a variety of venues, including local restaurants and school-sponsored events. Many schools host jazz festivals, where big-name artists perform and attend.

Not all artists starve, honest. But not all jazz musicians can make a living by performing only. You may consider combining your music education with other related skills such as teaching, marketing, or administration.

Proficiency in jazz performance requires long hours of practice. Jazz studies majors practice, rehearse, and perform with others in bands, combos, and duos. Some give frequent recitals.
