Many employers prefer to hire people who already have some experience. Seek out an apprenticeship or internship if your program does not provide resources to help you. You gain more than hands-on experience. You also make professional contacts and potential references. You need to be at least 18 years old to start an apprenticeship.
Most programs have a computer lab with computers that have the necessary software installed on them. In some cases, however, you may need to buy a computer and software in addition to your textbooks.
