You may be surprised to learn that most colleges and universities do not offer a pre-law program. However, many have pre-law concentrations. These usually are a set of guidelines for students interested in law to follow while they earn their bachelor's degree in a field of their choosing.

Although a few schools have a specific pre-law major, law schools do not require a specific major for you to apply.

You can do many things in college to gain legal experience. If your college or university has a Pre-Law Society, make sure to join. If possible, become a leader such as president or treasurer.

Many schools have internship or employment programs set up with law firms or government agencies, either locally or in Washington, D.C. Spending a summer in the Capitol while clerking for your state representative would look terrific on your law school application!
