Some nurse midwifery programs are combined with family nurse practitioner programs.

Some states consider training in nurse midwifery as enough qualification to be a nurse practitioner.

Most people who become nurse midwives choose to become certified. You must graduate from a program accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and pass a national exam. Several states require that you become certified.

As a nurse midwife, you are qualified to practice in all 50 states.
