The largest employer of meteorologists is the U.S. government. If you plan to work for the National Weather Service, be sure the undergraduate program you choose is accredited by the American Meteorological Society.

Good command of written and spoken English is important in communicating scientific knowledge effectively. A course in public speaking is helpful.

A second language can be useful in keeping up with new international developments in atmospheric science.
