Phlebotomy Program (MXC)

Phlebotomists are the direct link between the patient and the laboratory. The laboratory technologist relies on the phlebotomist's integrity and accuracy in procuring the proper specimens. Accurate diagnosis of a patient's condition requires quality work. Phlebotomy is an entry-level position in the health care industry. Phlebotomists can further their education and become laboratory technicians or technologists. Individuals seeking entry-level position as phlebotomists in hospitals, medical centers, home health care centers, clinics and other healthcare delivery institutions can enroll in the Phlebotomy Program at Malcolm X College. Phlebotomists are much needed healthcare professionals in the United States. The phlebotomist is responsible for procuring blood specimens from patients in various settings and transporting the specimens to the laboratory. The necessity for quality specimen collection and specimen preparation before testing is paramount to producing quality results for the most accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients. The phlebotomist is expected to be proficient in venous and skin punctures. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills required for entry-level phlebotomist.
