To become registered with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- graduation from a five year approved Interior Design program with at least two years of full-time diversified interior design experience;
- or graduation from a four year approved Interior Design program with at least two years full-time diversified interior design experience;
- or graduation from a three year approved Interior Design program with at least three years of full-time diversified interior design experience;
- or graduation from a two year approved Interior Design program with at least four years full-time diversified interior design experience;
- or graduation from a non-approved curriculum (graduates must submit official transcripts of interior design work from institution attended); and,
- passage of an exam administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification; and,
- payment of fees.
Licenses must be renewed every two years.
