In Illinois, locksmiths must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. A person is qualified to receive a license if he or she meets all of the following requirements:
- be at least 18 years of age;
- pass an authorized licensing exam in the theory and practice of the profession; and
- pay the required fees.
Licensure must be renewed every three years.
