Animal Scientists - Working Conditions

In a typical work setting, animal scientists:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate with others daily by phone, e-mail, and in person.
  • Occasionally speak in front of large groups.
  • Work as part of a team and are responsible for the work done by others.
  • Are moderately responsible for the health and safety of others.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Usually work indoors but occasionally work outdoors, usually under cover.
  • Are occasionally exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.
  • Work somewhat close to others such as in a shared office or within arm's length.
  • Are sometimes exposed to contaminants such as dust or odors.

Work Performance

  • Must be very accurate in their work and be sure all details are done.
  • Often make decisions that impact others without consulting a supervisor first.
  • Work in a moderately competitive environment and meet weekly deadlines.

Hours/Travel

  • Generally work an irregular schedule that changes based on production demands or contract length.
  • Usually work more than 40 hours a week.
