In Illinois, education administrators must be certified by the State Teacher Certification Board and the State Board of Education. A master's degree in an approved course of study is required. Completion of an approved program in one of the four administrative areas in a recognized institution of higher education is also required. All Administrative Certificates issued are valid for five years.
