Program Description
EKG Technician course gives the student an overview of anatomy, physiology and EKG machine components, EKG paper, eletrodes, lead wires performance of EKG, common EKG technical issues and resolution, and EKG abnormalities in common cardiology disorders. EKG Technician certification program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and this course will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography. Additionally, students will practice with the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.
Objective:
.Identify basic normal EKG waveform morphology
.Describe the normal physiology of cardiac conduction
.Distinguish between basic dysrhythmias
.Describe the physiological consequences and treatments of these basic dysrhythmias

Admission requirements and Procedures: Certificate Programs
An applicant must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of having earned a high school diploma, certificate or other proof of graduation from an accredited secondary education institution or the relevant equivalent of such graduation; e.g., a GED certificate.
