Program Description

Phlebotomy Technician course gives the student an overview of anatomy, physiology and basic infection control, along with basic phlebotomy theory which will prepare the student for advanced phlebotomy techniques. EKG Technician course gives the student an overview of anatomy, physiology and EKG machine components. EKG paper, electrodes, lead wires performance of EKG, common EKG technical issues and resolution, and EKG abnormalities in common cardiology disorders. The Phlebotomy program will give students the knoledge and skills to become competent phlebotomists. Students will receive a better understanding of body systems, how to conduct lab tests, collect specimens, and perform venipunctures. Phlebotomists typically work in hospitals, commercial laboratories, physician's offices, blood banks, pharmaceutical firms, home health agencies, research institutions, and public health clinics. Technician certification program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and this course will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography. Additionally, students will practice with equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.

Application Procedure

Admission requirements and procedures: certificate programs, an applicant must be at least 18 years of age and provide proof of having earned a high school diploma, certificate or other proof of graduation from an accredited secondary education institution or the relevant equivalent of such graduation; a GED certificate. As there may be additional program-related requirements, please refer to the specific program description for details. Following is the procedure for admission: schedule an appointment with an admissions representative. Submit a copy of photo identification. Submit a proof of high school graduation or equivalent. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $6,000 (due to their being two training components eligible for up to $3,000 each).
