Program Description

This course is designed to equip students with the foundational skills needed to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely and competently. The 160-hour program covers all requirements mandated by the state of Illinois and the Department of Transportation (DOT) to obtain a CDL. It meets federal regulations for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) and prepares students for the knowledge and practical tests necessary for licensure. The course consists of 40 hours of classroom instruction, focusing on permit preparation for general knowledge, combination vehicle, and air brakes exams. Additionally, 80 hours are dedicated to pre-trip inspections, lab training, and remedial support, ensuring that students develop the skills required to assess and maintain vehicle condition. The remaining 40 hours are spent in behind-the-wheel training, focusing on yard skills and road maneuvers to help students build confidence in real-world driving conditions. This program emphasizes safe driving techniques, hazard recognition, and vehicle malfunction management to reduce the risk of accidents.
