Overview
Approved By LWIA: 6
Last Re-Certification Date: 4/21/2025
Program Description
This extended course is designed for those seeking a comprehensive understanding of commercial vehicle operation, with additional resources and in-depth training to ensure mastery of all required skills. The 240-hour program not only covers the full set of CDL requirements for the state of Illinois and DOT but also provides eligibility for three endorsements: Hazmat, Tanker, and Doubles-Triples. It meets federal Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) standards and is ideal for individuals seeking to expand their qualifications.
The course structure includes 100 hours of classroom training, including permit preparation and endorsement training, alongside 80 hours of pre-trip inspection, lab work, and remedial training. Students also complete 60 hours of behind-the-wheel training, which includes yard skills, road maneuvers, and remedial sessions for additional support to meet testing standards. This program ensures that students are fully prepared for all state exams, including those for general knowledge, combination vehicle operation, and air brakes. Students will acquire the skills necessary to safely operate a CDL vehicle, identify hazards, and effectively manage vehicle malfunctions, ensuring they are ready for employment in the transportation industry.
Program cost includes $400 for Secretary of State permit fees, examination fee, hazardous materials endorsement fingerprinting, Department of Transportation physical and drug screening test.
