Program Description
The Radiologic Technology Program is approved by ICCB and the Illinois Board of Higher Education. In addition, the program is Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This full-time accredited program prepares men and women to function effectively as entry level staff radiographers. The program includes both theoretical and practical courses as well as clinical education experiences in hospitals assigned by the program coordinator.Mission Statement: The mission of the Radiologic Technology Program at South Suburban College is to provide a comprehensive education in order to prepare students to become entry-level radiographers. The program is designed to provide an environment that promotes stimulating intellectual discovery both didactically and clinically. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Apply basic mathematical methods to solve problems in Radiological procedures.
Differentiate the units of measurement used in general and Radiographic procedures such as Radiation dose and exposure factors.
Prepare students to perform Radiology Procedures using the lowest possible Radiation exposure to patients and staff. Prepare students to obtain high quality images for use patient care decision making. Prepare students to work in healthcare environment by teaching skills in infection control and other necessary aspects of patient care.
To provide a structured curriculum that has the expanse and depth for the preparation of the entry-level radiographer. To enhance problem solving and critical thinking skills of the student. To prepare students for National Credentialing Exam and obtain a Radiology Technology license. To empower students/graduates to continuously improve professionally and seek various educational advancements.

Application Procedure
Submit an SSC Application/Registration form and forward all high school as well as other college transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Evaluation no later than March 1. Submit the Radiologic Technology Program Application form to the Program by mail or in person (Room 4453) no later than March 1 prior to the Summer semester wishing admission. A photocopy of current health care insurance must be submitted to each respective program coordinator in order to participate at any clinical education site. Failure to maintain comprehensive health care insurance will result in the student being immediately withdrawn from the clinical site and thereby receiving a failing grade in the clinical education class. Furthermore, the student will be financially responsible to pay all medical bills and co-payments as a result of injuries or health
issues that arise from participation of clinical education programs. The maximum tuition and fees approved for this occupation is $8,000.
