Program Description
This combined billing and coding course provides the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-10CM, ICD-10PCS and or the ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. FUNDAMENTALS OF MEDICINE FOR NON-CLINICAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS: The 40 hour class provides a foundation for medical terminology, anatomy, and provide practice applying the concepts to reading and interpreting a medical record. Participants will learn to: Identify how to use medical terminology to read a medical record, use anatomic reference systems to identify anatomic positions and landmarks, and understand an overview of the pathophysiology of common conditions. MEDICAL CODER: The 60 hour class provides the fundamentals of medical coding. Hands on activities will reinforce lessons, walking participants through real world medical cases and charts to extract the most relevant information. Participants will learn to: Identify the purpose of the CPT, ICD-10-CM and the HCPCS Level II code books, understand and apply the official ICD-10-CM coding guidelines, apply coding conventions when assigning diagnoses and procedure codes, identify the information in appendices of the CPT code book, explain the determination of the levels of E/M services, and code a wide variety of patient services using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes. MEDICAL BILLER: The 24 hour Medical Biller class introduces the health insurance and reimbursement process, familiarizing participants with the health insurance industry, legal and regulatory issues and differences in reimbursement methodologies. Participants will learn: principles of medical billing related to proper claim form preparation, and submission and payment processing and the follow up process.
