Program Description
Human Services is a multidisciplinary course of study that encompasses all the schools of behavioral health combined with Sociology, Social Psychology, Political Science, and any other discipline that intersects with human wellness and development. The Human Services Department of Elgin Community College (ECC) provides education in the clinical application of this knowledge by combining the skills of therapy with advocacy toward the improvement of peoples holistic environments. A student of Human Services need not pursue clinical practice. Graduates of ECCs Human Services Program pursue careers in Psychology, Social Work, Substance Use Disorders, Recovery Support, Human Development, Social Justice, Community Health, Recreation, and Education.
Upon completion of the program, and the completion of 1,000 6 2,000 hours of paid and supervised work experience (depending on degree currently held) students may take the Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certificate (CADC) exam offered by the Illinois Certification Board.
Graduates of this program work in a variety of agencies address substance abuse issues. These include but are not limited to prevention programs, harm reduction programs, out-patient programs, in-patient programs, recovery programs in correctional settings, medication assisted recovery programs, and recovery homes.
This program is accredited by the Illinois Certification Board (DBA: IAODAPCA); the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC); and the Council for Standards in Human Services Education (CSHSE).
