Program Description
Human Services is a multidisciplinary course of study that encompasses all the schools of behavioral health combined with Sociology, Social Psychology, Political Science, and any other discipline that intersects with human wellness and development. The Human Services Department of Elgin Community College (ECC) provides education in the clinical application of this knowledge by combining the skills of therapy with advocacy toward the improvement of peoples holistic environments. A student of Human Services need not pursue clinical practice. Graduates of ECCs Human Services Program pursue careers in Psychology, Social Work, Substance Use Disorders, Recovery Support, Human Development, Social Justice, Community Health, Recreation, and Education.
Graduates of the program are eligible to work upon completion of the program. They work in homeless shelters, youth service bureaus, older adult programs, criminal justice, schools, and domestic violence shelters to name a few.
Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Human Services 6 Board Certified Professional Exam through the National Organization for Human Services. Also, graduates of this program find their credits accepted at many four-year colleges.
This program is accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Services Education (CSHSE).
