Program Description
The Professional Pharmacy Technician is an introductory course that is designed to teach students the fundamentals and particluars of becoming a pharmacy technician. This class introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings and covers drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions and daily pharmacy operations. This program trains individuals to effectively assist in pharmaceutical preparations and complete daily required tasks in any pharmacy environment, although on the job training is still a part of pharmacy training. This course is also designed to introduce students interested in pharmacy to the basic concepts of pharmacy calculations. Students will have the opportunity to understand and practice math concepts and calculations needed to become a certified pharmacy technician. Students will have the opportunity to complete a 60 hour hands on experience externship in a pharmacy setting.

Application Procedure
The Career Coach or student should contact the Career Services Office at 708-656-8000 ext. 2468 to make an appointment to have the exploration form completed. Prerequisite courses and placement tests may be required which will increase total costs. Students are responsible for taking college placement test (when needed). All information is current as of Fall 2020 and is subject to change. Student must have picture ID or proof of residency.
The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $3,000.

- Math - 12th grade level
- Reading - 12th grade level
- Language - Reading,Writing and Speaking English
- Other - Physical requirements-hand on eye coordination, finger ability, ability to lift at least 20 lbs.
