Program Description
he Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to earn the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and Certified EKG Technician (CET) credentials. The learning objectives outlined below provide a map of the knowledge and skills students will gain as they complete each module. Students demonstrate success by passing the final examination with 85% or higher which enables them to take the national certification exam. Medical Assistants perform general patient care and handle routine administrative with responsibilities that frequently include the following:
5 Obtaining patient vital signs
5 Taking measurements
5 Administering oral and parenteral medications
5 Performing wound care
5 Assisting during procedures
5 Labeling and processing specimens
5 Preparing for, performing, and monitoring EKG tests
5 Managing medical records
5 Processing health insurance
Study is online and self-paced.
452 Hours with an optional 100 hours of externship

Application Procedure
Register with Northeastern Illinois University's Office of Community & Professional Education in person. Call 773-442-5080 for appointment. Students are allowed to register with the understanding that they meet program criteria. On the first day of class, students are required to self-verify, in writing, that all requirements have been met. Students have available tests, at no cost, to verify both their math and their reading levels.
The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $8,000.
