Program Description
This program offers valuable training in legal, ethical and regulatory concepts that are central to the field, including HIPAA compliance and third-party guidelines for filing insurance claims. Students will gain hands-on, practical experience in medical billing and coding and work with the main coding manuals: ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS Level II. Students will also learn how to code diagnoses and services and procedures for all systems of the body. Studies will focus on word parts and the structures and functions of the human body. Disorders and medical procedures common to each body system, including musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, nervous, endocrine, integumentary, genitourinary, lymphatic and immune, will be discussed. This program is entirely online. Once registered, students have twelve (12) months to complete this program.
After successfully completing the program, students will also receive access to the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) online CPC Exam Review course, to help study for the certification exam. Students will then be prepared to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
In order to sit for national certification exams, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
