Program Description

Learners will obtain the basic and advanced skills necessary to gain entry into welding construction and related occupations. Students learn how to weld using the shielded metal arc or stick (SMAW) process in a variety of positions using steel plates and pipe. There are three stackable certificates that lead to the Construction AAS. This allows for entry and exit points for the diverse employment goals of industry and students. SMAW Basic allows for learners to gain entry level skills quickly (one semester) or with a limited time commitment (two semesters). This certificate focuses on flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using plate steel.
