Program Description
Paramedics provide immediate advanced care to critically ill or injured people on-scene and provide transportation to hospitals, care facilities and residences. The ability to work under pressure in challenging environments, think critically to make difficult decisions independently and accurately perform life-saving skills such as critical care medication administration, advanced airway management, and advanced cardiac life support. A knowledge base is also needed in areas such as cardiology, respiratory, neurology, traumatic injuries and many others for both adult and pediatric patients to become a successful Paramedic. Students completing the program enter the profession as an EMT-Paramedic licensed at both State and National levels; and will meet all requirements to be certified by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health to be employed in the field of emergency medicine. Students will also complete the course with certifications in, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, International Trauma Life Support, Emergency Pediatric Care, Advanced Medical Life Support, and Pediatric Education for the Pre-Hospital Professional.
