Program Description
This 60-credit-hour program prepares the graduate to enter a career which blends two rapidly expanding fields, healthcare and information technology. Health information technicians ensure the quality of medical records by verifying their completeness, accuracy and proper entry into computer systems. They also use computer systems to analyze patient data for the purpose of improving patient care or controlling costs. Registered Health Information Technicians (RHITs) may specialize in coding diagnoses and procedures in patient records for reimbursement and research. Health information technicians work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, cancer registries, mental health facilities, managed care organizations, and physician offices or as consultants.

3WIOA and TAA students need to contact the Harper College Workforce Coordinator at (847) 925-6782 or WIOA@harpercollege.edu. A separate book voucher is required for Follett Bookstore #1341 on campus. Books can be ship if requested for a small fee. Each semester, all Cook County WIOA sending agency case managers must supply the Harper College Workforce Coordinator with a Semester Training Schedule Approval Form that lists the courses the client will be taking that semester, and this must match the client's Harper Educational Plan.4
Maximun tuition and fees amount for this occupation is $5,000.
