Program Description

This 16 credit-hour certificate program provides entry-level education and field experience for students wishing to obtain a position as a Community Health Worker. This program prepares students for community health positions such as community health advocates, lay health educators, community health representatives, patient navigators, and Promotores de Salud. Beginning with the fall semester of every school year and studying on a part-time basis, it is estimated to take three semesters to complete including a summer session. Application Procedure

3WIOA and TAA students need to contact the Harper College Workforce Coordinator at (847) 925-6782 or WIOA@harpercollege.edu. A separate book voucher is required for Follett Bookstore #1341 on campus. Books can be ship if requested for a small fee. Each semester, all Cook County WIOA sending agency case managers must supply the Harper College Workforce Coordinator with a Semester Training Schedule Approval Form that lists the courses the client will be taking that semester, and this must match the client's Harper Educational Plan.4 The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $3,000.

  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Reading - Per Placement Test Cut-off Scores
  • Language - Instruction is in English
  • Writing - Per Placement Test Cut-off Scores
  • Prerequisites - TB Tests and other health screenings are required, background check
  • Other - WIOA students must have initial and ongoing academic advising
