Program Description

This 56-hour noncredit Dialysis Technician Program provides students the knowledge and skills to, under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer processing and delivery systems, as well as maintain and repair equipment, monitor and record vital signs, and administer drugs as needed. High school diploma or GED required for admission. Students will learn the principles of hemodialysis, safety procedures, identifying specific supplies and equipment used in selected dialysis procedures, plus the definitions of quality of care. Students also will learn to review precautions and guidelines in performing the preparation, assessment, monitoring, and care of a dialysis patient. Upon completion, students can sit for the state certification examination.
