Program Description

This program presents the basics of phlebotomy. Laboratory scientists, technologists and technicians require blood specimens that have been obtained promptly, efficiently and safely by qualified phlebotomists. The phlebotomist is an integral member of the health care team. This individual must be well trained in all aspects of specimen collection and processing. The phlebotomist must also be able to maintain high standards of professionalism with patients and their families. To ensure quality training is available to persons interested in this field of work, Moraine Valley has developed a training program in phlebotomy. Employment opportunities for phlebotomists are widespread. The growth is drive by the increased medical needs of an aging population and more diagnostic testing. Locally, the labor market us growing, primarily due to the increase in home health care services and employment opportunities with contract laboratory organizations.
