Program Description

The Respiratory Care program prepares students to become registered respiratory therapists (RRT). Respiratory Therapy is a specialized health care field where practitioners are trained in pulmonary medicine in order to work therapeutically with people suffering from pulmonary disease. Graduates of this program are able to sit for the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) RRT exams. The program is 70 credit hours which includes 4 pre-requisite courses ( English 101, Biology 149, 250 and 251) and 17 core courses in the respiratory therapy curriculum. There are also 4 non-paid clinical rotations at clinical sites within Will County. The program application is available via the JJC website annually in the month of March and 25 students are selected to begin each fall in a full-time cohort model. Courses for the program are held Monday-Thursday during the day time hours.
