Program Description
This program prepares individuals for an entry-level career in Welding by covering the basics of a D1.1 weld, which is a professional benchmark that anyone planning to enter the welding industry needs to meet. This tells potential employers that the certificate holder has been properly trained and has the work experience to become a qualified and capable member of their welding staff. This program provides instruction in shop tools, fundamental metal inert gas (MIG) welding in 1G, machine capabilities, proper machine setup, weld discontinuities, weld repair, safety/PPE. Within Waubonsees lab, students will learn how to weld one position in preparation to qualify their weld(s) for the American Welding Societys Certified Welder certification. Through the lecture portion as well as with hands-on instruction students will learn how to use hand tools, a tape measure, a saw, and blueprint reading and design. At the conclusion of the program individuals will be tested against American Welding Societys (AWS) code for the Certified Welder (CW) designation.
