Program Description
This program prepares the student to assist the physician in business, clinical, and office laboratory procedures in a variety of medical facilities. Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to assist the physician in the exam room, obtain vital signs, peform and mount EKG, obtain patient record information, sterilize equipment and instruments, perform basic laboratory procedures, patient scheduling, manage personnel, handle financial records, billing and fees, correspondence, insurance claim forms completion and follow up, and do basic medical transcription from written or voice input. Career goals for this program include employment as a medical assistant, laboratory assistant, insurance clerk, unit secretary (same as HUC-Health Unit Coordinator or unit clerk), EKG technician, phlebotomist, office manager, scheduler (hospital or physicians office), patient accounts, claims processor or medical receptionist. The graduate may qualify for a supervisory medical position.
