Program Description
A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to drive trucks and buses, delivery vehicles, for-hire vehicles and other commerical vehicles, or to instruct commercial vehicle operators. Inclues instruction in operating gas, diesel, or electronically-powered vehicles; loading and unloading cargo or passengers; reporting delays or accidents on the road; verifying load against shipping papers; arranging transportation for personnel; and keeping records of receipts and fares. Prepares students to earn thier Class A License.

Application Procedure
Must be at least 18 years or older, as in accordance with Commercial Driver's requirements for the State of Il. For applicants that meet the minimum age requirement they will need to complete drug and alcohol screening. Upon passing the screening qualified applicants are to: 1) provide evidence of the drug and alcohol screening results to 160 Driving Academy/Oakton College and 2)register with Oakton College. To register, applicants are to complete the Continuing Education registration form. This form can be mailed, faxed, or brought in by the applicant to one of our office locations. Applicants can only register if they have attended an orientation. The orientation will cover the program outline, the nature of work for truck drivers and the minimum requirements/prerequisites (Age, IDOT drug and alcohol screening, permit-included in tuition price) to participate in the CDL program. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $5,000.
