Program Description
The Medical Assistant Certificate prepares students for careers in a medical office or ambulatory care setting. The medical assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical skills to assist physicians or other health professionals. Students will learn skills in accordance with the standards and guidelines recommended by the Medical Assistant Education Review Board. Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to take a national certification exam.

Application Procedure
Prospective Medical Assistant Certificate students can apply online at oakton.edu/apply. Current Oakton students should apply through their myOakton account. Applicants must submit a copy of their state ID/drivers license at the time of application. Remaining supporting documentation can be submitted at a later time, but must be received in order to be considered for the program.
Applicants should submit an official high school transcript or high school equivalency certificate and college (if applicable) transcript. Applicants need an English placement of 090/097/098 or higher and a math placement of 060 or higher. Completion of the Limited Enrollment Reading Assessment Test is also required. Minimum scores on all tests/placements are required. Qualified applicants will also meet with MLT Program Chair. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $8,000.
