Program Description

The Gas Utility Worker Program consists of general education courses and core courses that feature specific competencies in the safe construction and operation of natural gas distribution systems. The program takes a student through a series of basic and advanced skill sets designed to enhance on-the-job performance and to quickly bring the student to the level of a full-functioning, skilled worker once employed. Upon completion, students who graduate from this program will be prepared to work as a utility worker in the gas utility industry. The Gas Utility was created through the tremendous efforts of the United Military Assistance Program (UMAP) and the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) Veterans Committee, led by Local Union 18007. Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) is dedicated to providing students with intensive and comprehensive industry validated training in the construction trade and utility industries. DTI is committed to preparing students to compete in these industries by offering relevant competency-based instruction that leads to unionized apprenticeship and other relevant trade and utility worker opportunities. The program assists those men and women transitioning from the military into the civilian sector with gainful career opportunities in the Utility Workers sector and other labor affiliated program opportunities.
