Program Description

Dawson Technical Institute offers the Construction Carpentry certificate program through the Construction Technology Center located 3901 S. State Street in Chicago, Illinois. The Basic Certificate in Construction Carpentry prepares students for an entry level apprentice position with a construction contractor. The program provides instruction in tool safety and usage, construction materials, work site safety, blueprint reading, and mathematical concepts. Course content also includes an introduction to the construction trades and basic ARC welding. Theory and practical 3hands-on4 application are emphasized throughout the program. Students will receive the OSHA Construction Safety certificate.

Application Procedure

Open to anyone 18 years of age or older interested in learning a construction skill or pursuing the construction industry. Application for Fall or Spring. No previous academic experience is required. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $8,000.

  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Math - 9th grade level
  • Reading - 9th grade level
  • Writing - CCC Write Placement Test score of 5 to 6
  • Other - If a recent high school grad, ACT scres are accepted score Eng540
