Program Description
Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) is dedicated to providing students with intensive and comprehensive industry validated training in the construction trade and utility industries. DTI is committed to preparing students to compete in these industries by offering relevant competency-based instruction that leads to unionized apprenticeship and other relevant trade and utility worker opportunities.
Dawson Technical Institute offers the Combination Welding certificate program through the Construction Technology Center located 3901 S. State Street in Chicago, Illinois. The Basic Certificate in Combination Welding prepares students for an entry level employment or apprentice position with a construction contractor. The program provides students with training in basic welding skills in a shop setting. In addition to learning welding mathematics, blueprint reading, and layout and fabrication, students are also introduced to the basic fundamentals of job safety and ethics. Graduates of this program are qualified for entry level employment as an ARC, MIG, or TIG welder. The program provides instruction in tool safety and usage, construction materials, work site safety, blueprint reading, and mathematical concepts. Theory and practical 3hands-on4 application are emphasized throughout the program. Students will receive the OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-hour Certification upon successful completion of the program.

Application Procedure
18 years or older, if less than 18 years old must have High School Diploma or GED, or be admitted following the alternative ATB Test standard. Program is open for application for Fall and Spring semester only. No previous academic experience required. Interested persons may apply for training at any City Colleges of Chicago locations during office hours on through an on-line application. Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis limited by the class requirements for OSHA safety. Interested person is scheduled to attend a general information session. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $8,000.
