This program celebrates excellence in work-based learning by recognizing standout individuals, teams, or projects making an impact in Illinois. Catalysts will be spotlighted at the WBLA Quarterly Meeting, on social media, and in the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board Quarterly Bulletin. Use the Recommendation Form to submit someone (or a team) who goes above and beyond.


The Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship (WBLA) Committee is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Cohort of Apprentice Ambassadors. This professional development opportunity is for current or former Illinois apprentices who want to share their experiences at employer engagement events. The Illinois Workforce Innovation Board's Work-Based Learning & Apprenticeship Committee will unveil key findings and recommendations for work-based learning in Illinois at the "Work-Based Learning in Illinois: Insights & Actions" webinar on August 20th. Employers, economic development professionals, and education partners are invited to hear the final findings, followed by an open discussion on the next steps. Register to attend.


The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity will fund high-impact Apprenticeship Intermediaries that support individuals and businesses to enter into apprenticeship programs. Eligible applicants include community-based organizations, municipalities, education institutions (e.g., school districts, community colleges), industry associations, state agencies, workforce boards, and nonprofits. National Apprenticeship Week kicked off with the IWIB Apprenticeship Illinois Committee announcing the 2025 Apprentice Ambassadors Cohort! Ten individuals were chosen for their inspiring stories and leadership skills, each offering unique perspectives to enhance apprenticeships in Illinois. Ambassadors will work alongside workforce leaders to promote awareness and innovation in the apprenticeship ecosystem. Congratulations to the Apprentice Ambassadors!


The latest Bulletin covers recent news, including the importance of National Apprenticeship Week and upcoming Apprenticeship Illinois webinars. Daniel Serota, chair of the IWIB Apprenticeship Illinois Committee, was recognized in Crain's 40 Under 40 for his leadership. Additionally, a success story highlights John Barger's establishment of the TIG Welding Registered Apprenticeship Program at Mac Medical for local youth and employees.


Partners are invited to the Overview of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) Illinois Outreach webinar on October 21, 2024 from 3:00-4:00pm.
