Together We Build: West Side Workforce Development & Career Fair

The Together We Build: West Side Workforce Development and Career Fair is free and open to the public (with registration).
Block Club Chicago, in partnership with BUILD Chicago, is hosting a workforce development and career fair in community with our West Side neighbors. Held in the Austin neighborhood at BUILD's campus, this all-day event will include:
- Panel discussion from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. led by West Side reporter, Michael Liptrot, on the future of work on the West Side, with speakers:
- Roy Walker III, Malcolm X College, Senior Vice President, Academic & Student Affairs
- Jayne Vellinga, Chicago Women in Trades, Executive Director
- Marvin Hunter, Institute for Nonviolence Chicago, Associate Director of Workforce Development
- Professional headshots to help participants prepare for applications and online profiles
- Resume review and coaching station offering one-on-one feedback
- Mock interviews to help attendees practice and build confidence
- Financial coaching and literacy resources, offering guidance on budgeting, credit, savings, and long-term financial stability
- Professional attire closet, offering free work-ready clothing and styling support (until 2 p.m.)
- Kids zone so attendees can leave their children to engage with kid-friendly games and activities while they take advantage of the activations.
- Game of Life Simulation led by BUILD Chicago to navigate real-world decisions—from securing a job and managing a budget to responding to unexpected life events—while exploring the skills needed to build a successful future: Every 30 min
- Reentry Simulation led by the Corporate Coalition that encourages participants to reflect on the challenges to overcome when applying to jobs with a criminal record: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m.
More than 30 community partner organizations will provide resources and share information on apprenticeships, trainings, and employment opportunities. These include:
