Program Description

The Practical Nursing (PN) Program offered is a one-year diploma program consisting of nine courses (Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Fundamentals of Nursing, Geriatric and Mental Health Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternal/Newborn and Womens Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Pharmacology, and Role Transition for the Practical Nurse) which must be completed in sequence*. Each course incorporates biological sciences, social sciences, nursing theory and clinical experience through classroom instruction, laboratory simulations, internships in clinical settings such as hospitals and nursing care facilities, and online practice and exam preparation. Homework, reading assignments and periodic examinations administered throughout the course will supplement classroom teachings and will be incorporated into each students grade. The program is 1160 clock hours (approximately 58 weeks).

Those interested should call Illinois College of Nursing at (630)495-7968. Pre-requisites and other adminssions requirements will be reviewed. Students will need to complete an application packet, background check, and drug screening, and submit proof of insurance and immunizations, along with two letters of recommendation.

Entry Requirements:

  • Drug/Alcohol Screening
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Physical Exam
  • Math - College level 101 or Above OR 2 years of High School OR GED
  • Reading - College level 101 or Above OR 2 years of High School OR GED
  • Prerequisites - Students should have CNA, and 2.0 or higher GPA from last school attended
  • Other - 1 yr of HS Science;TEAS exam score of 45% or higher
