Program Description

An instructional program that generally prepares individuals in the knowledge, techniques and procedures for promoting health, providing care for sick, disabled, informed, or other individuals or groups. Includes instruction in the administration of medication and treatments, assisting a physician during treatments and examinations, referring patients to physicians and other health care specialists, and planning education for health maintenance. Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.

Application Procedure

Initial contact in Room #4461. Students need to complete all pre-requisite courses and then apply to the nursing program for admission. Admission is the Fall semester only. The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program provides students with a basic knowledge of nursing theory and practice. It prepares nursing graduates to take the National Council of Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which qualifies the graduate to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The ADN Program at South Suburban College is accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) and approved by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (DPR). The ADN Program has specific admission requirements. PLEASE NOTE THAT ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ACCEPTANCE TO THE ADN PROGRAM. Details are in the SSC catalog. The maximum tuition and fees amount approved for this occupation is $8,000.
