Program Description

A Medical Assisting Program prepares students to assume the role of a Medical Assistant in a variety of healthcare settings including outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. Medical Assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician. The Medical Assisting Program at Elgin Community College strives to provide a well-rounded education for students looking to enter the healthcare field. This program will provide a personalized learning environment that will equip students to use critical thinking, professionalism and compassionate hands on care.
