Program Description
A surgical technologist is a healthcare professional who works as part of a surgical team to ensure that the operating room is safe, well-equipped, and ready for surgery. They are responsible for preparing the operating room, including setting up sterile equipment and instruments, preparing the patient for surgery, passing instruments to the surgeon during the surgery, and assisting the surgical team after the procedure to ensure the patient's safety. Surgical technologists are part of the team that includes surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists to ensure the safety and efficiency of the surgeries. They help position patients on the operating table, count surgical instruments and sponges, and assist with closing surgical incisions.
Our Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology equips you with hands-on skills and knowledge, allowing you to actively participate in surgical procedures. You become an essential surgical team member, collaborating with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The program requires you to complete 120 cases in various specialties, so when you graduate, you will be an entry-level surgical technologist. You can sit for the certification exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Completing the required 120 cases will expose you to a wide range of surgical specialties and procedures.
