September 19 – 25 is Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. The goal of this week is to raise awareness about the importance of adult education and family literacy. In the U.S., the number of adults who struggle with basic academic skills is approximately 36 million. This makes it difficult for individuals to achieve their education and work-related goals. As adult literacy connects with many social issues, it is very important to highlight the need to help others acquire these essential college and career skills.
The Illinois Community College Board supports the Adult Education Family Literacy Week and convenes the annual Forum for Excellence Conference where practitioners work collaboratively to develop programs that meet the needs of adult literacy and English Language Learners throughout the state. Join in the excitement using the hashtags #forum4excellence2021 and #excellence4equity. Additionally, follow the ICCB Facebook page throughout the week to learn more about Adult Education throughout Illinois. https://www.facebook.com/illinoiscommunitycolleges.
